Do Grades Really Matter?!
By SANG NGUYEN
My Korean friend used to share with me that she always wants to study in a school/ environment which grades are not concerned too much on the journey she develops herself academically and personally. After that conversation, I kept pondering if this is a wish of many students nowadays.
Even though I love working with numbers and use numbers to evaluate something, I do not think numbers turning to letter grades can assess fully someone’s capacity.
Grading system is just created with the main purpose to evaluate the students’ understanding of the material and of their complex understanding of the course material. If they get B, it simply means they should work harder on that academic subject next time. If they get more B, it doesn’t mean they are totally a failure in their entire life.
The thing is some people feel lack of self-esteem because they get low grade, and they think that grades are the ultimate determination of their self-worth.
If they receive an A instead of B, they believe they are a failure. Even if they do feel a bit doubt about that idea, the surroundings much less convey that message to them and make them believe in it strongly.
Actually, there are many alternatives to evaluate your self-esteem on your academic and personal accomplishment. Realize that there is only one of each person on earth and that you can provide original personality, interest and experience.
You have the ability to add value to anything you put your mind because only you can offer thoughts or opinions from your specific perspective.
You can add value to any community because there is only one you.
For example, on the topic of arts, you are good at drawing, it is possible to base your self-esteem on creative skills. Or you are fond of scientific research, it is also possible to move your self-esteem up on research skills. If you are in the market for superclone Replica Rolex , Super Clone Rolex is the place to go!
